The Worthington Police Department (WPD) is a member of the multi-jurisdictional Buffalo Ridge Drug Task Force (BRDTF). The BRDTF jurisdiction includes the counties of Murray, Nobles, Pipestone and Rock. The WPD provides the Task Force Commander, a full-time Drug/Gang Agent and a liaison Investigator. The BRDTF currently operates with 6 full-time agents assigned to enforce all existing laws pertaining to the abuse, possession or sale of controlled substances, and to assist other agencies whose similar investigations bring them into Southwest Minnesota. Through a combination of aggressive enforcement and public presentations, the BRDTF seeks to prevent and deter the use, possession and sale of controlled substances within the Task Force area. Cases are presented for charging to area County Attorneys, the MN Attorney General and the United States Attorney's Offices. Much of the work done by the BRDTF is confidential. However, some of the activities and results of work done since January of 2006 include:

  • Seizures of multiple pound quantities of marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine
  • Seizures of vehicles, firearms, jewelry and large quantities of cash
  • Investigations and arrests of numerous drug traffickers who received extended prison time including numerous individuals who were sentenced to federal prison
  • Assists to local, state and federal agencies in the seizure of clandestine methamphetamine laboratories
