The Finance Department of the City of
Worthington is responsible for maintaining high standards for all
accounting, internal auditing, data processing and financial control
services provided to City Council, the City Administrator, City departments
and agencies. The department manages the day-to-day financial
transactions including accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets,
project accounting, investments, risk management, cash flow management
activities, payroll and computer services. The
Finance Department consists of the Director, Staff Accountant, Senior
Computer, Payroll Specialist and Accounting Clerk.

Is there a City Sales Tax?
No. Minnesota Sales Tax is 6.5%
There is a local lodging tax of 3%, which is allocated to fund tourism
promotion in the community.

Who collects property taxes for the City?
The Nobles County Auditor-Treasurer (372-8233). If a homeowner
thinks that property taxes are too high, they may want to discuss concerns
with the City Council, School Board Member or County Commissioner.

Who do I talk to if I
think my property is over-assessed?
If you have any comments or questions about your property valuation,
please contact the Nobles County Assessor (372-8234). Many property
owners' concerns can be explained or resolved over the phone. If the
assessor cannot resolve the problems, you can appeal to the Local Board of
Review, the County Board of Equalization or the Minnesota Tax Court.
Information about these methods of appeal is outlined on the property
value notice received each year.
