Airport AdvisoryThe City of Worthington owns and operates a municipal airport with one runway of 5,506 feet and second runway of 4,200 feet that in part provide quality air transportation services for the community. The Airport Advisory Board meets as needed and works to establish airport operating policy, promote the airport and recommend project/ construction improvements. The Board also recommends an operating and capital budget to the City Council for adoption. Cable 3 Joint Powers BoardKnology and Mediacom have franchise agreements to provide cable television services within the City of Worthington. The cable company provides two PEG channels for public, educational, and government use. The City of Worthington, ISD 518, and Minnesota West jointly administer these channels for Worthington residents through a Joint Powers agreement. Residents who subscribe to cable television service can watch city council meetings live or as taped cablecasts on the government access channels. The WGTN-TV3 Public Access Channel Joint Powers Board meets on the second Thursday of every month in the ISD 518 Administration Board Room. Cross Cultural Advisory CommitteeThe Cross Cultural Advisory Committee serves the City Council as a bridge between the City of Worthington leadership and the broader community through facilitating cross cultural communication and education opportunities. The committee advises the City Council on their community engagement practices. It also provides recommendations for culturally-competent cross cultural community outreach and communication to and from our racially and ethnically diverse community members of Worthington. |
Economic Development Revolving Loan Fund CommitteeThe Economic Development Revolving Loan Fund Committee is a group of nine (9) individuals appointed by the Mayor and City Council to advise the Council on applications submitted by individuals/businesses seeking financial assistance through the City’s Revolving Loan Fund. The Committee meets on an as needed basis in the Council Chambers of City Hall. Golf Advisory BoardPrairie View Golf Links is an 18 hole public golf course that is overseen by the Golf Advisory Board which meets monthly during the golf season. The Board reviews and approves recommended operating policies, set the rates to be paid to use the golf course and works with the staff to recommend an annual operating and capital budget to the City Council. The Golf Advisory Board meets at 7:00 A.M. on the third Wednesday of every month at Prairie View Golf Course during the golfing season meets when necessary during the winter in City Hall Council Chambers. Parks and recreation Advisory BoardThe City of Worthington has 23 parks with an approximate total of 167 acres of land, 5 athletic fields, a partial recreation trail system and numerous grass and right of way areas to maintain. The extensive park system in the City is overseen by Worthington’s Park and Recreation Board, which has the responsibility to determine and recommend to the City Council park and recreation needs within the community. The Board is committed to preserving the attractive and desirable natural resource features of the City, to provide highest quality park and recreational facilities that serve the present and projected population of Worthington, visitors from the surrounding areas of those traveling throughout the area. The Board is committed to providing the most accessible and modern inventory of park and recreational facilities, as well as to promote the acquisition and development of future park facilities, which reflect the demand and needs of the residents of Worthington.

Planning CommissionThe Planning Commission is a group of seven (7) Worthington residents appointed by the Mayor and City Council to hold hearings and provide recommendations on land use items. Only the Council can make the final decision on most land use issues; however, the Council relies on the Planning Commission as an advisory body to hold hearings, gather input, and provide the Council with expert “planning” advice based on the adopted city codes and comprehensive plan. The Commission is also charged to hear and act on all zoning related appeals and variance applications. The Commission meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers in City Hall. Applications must be submitted no later than the 15th day of any given month in order to be on the following month’s agenda. Police Civil Service CommissionThe purpose of the Police Commission is for the selection and promotion of Public Safety personnel under the authority of MN Statutes Chapter 419. The Police Commission consists of 3 members appointed by the City Council to three-year terms. Board Members must be residents of the City of Worthington. Meetings are held as needed. |
Public Arts CommissionThe WPAC was formed in November 2012 with a grant from Forecast Public Art. The purpose of this commission is to support the display of public art in the City of Worthington, and to provide a process for the inclusion of public art and memorial structures to: The WPAC mission is to help enrich the lives of the citizens of Worthington and those who visit by supporting public art with inclusion into city planning, services, design, and infrastructure. Water and Light CommissionThe Water and Light Commission is responsible for the control and management of the operations of Worthington Public Utilities which provides the city’s electric, water and municipal wastewater services. The Commission consists of five members appointed by the City Council. Each Commissioner may serve a maximum of three, three-year terms. The Commission hires the General Manager who oversees the day-to-day operations of the utilities. Water and Light Commission meetings are open to the public and are held on the first and third Mondays of each month beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the Worthington Public Utilities Conference Room. |
