Public Works Director


Provides general direction to all public works functions of the City except for those under the jurisdiction of the Water and Light Commission to ensure the continued maintenance of those services as may be consistent with the goals and objectives of the City Council. Has functional responsibility for the maintenance and operation of all city streets, signs, parking lots, boulevards, parks and athletic facilities, lake aeration system, public docks, airport, storm water collection and management system and city owned and occupied facilities/buildings. Responsible to negotiate an annual contract for services with the “Y” and ensure the City sponsored youth recreation programs are being managed according to the contract. Responsible for overseeing all athletic recreational activities to include negotiating users fees. Responsible to insure by coordinating with the Street and Park supervisors, proper safety precautions are followed in all work activities. Responsible to insure proper administration and oversight of the Street and Park Supervisors, and the City’s compliance of the Employee’s Right to Know Law and Safety Committee appointee. Maintains an open line of communication with the public at all times, and is on call for issues related to the position

Salary range is $32.14 to $43.48 per hour (subject to the City’s wage and compensation plan) based on qualifications, plus benefit package.

Memorial Auditorium Technical Director



Nature of Work

Part-time position with the daily responsibility for the technical operations of Memorial Auditorium including lighting, sound, theatrical rigging and coordinating necessary maintenance of equipment and stage area. The technical director is responsible for all technical operations during a contracted performance/event.

Preferred Qualifications but Will Train the Right Person

Knowledge and experience in lighting and sound systems.

Knowledge and/or interest in the performing arts.

Ability to maintain a professional work ethic.

Ability to foster working relationships with clients, artists, promoters and patrons.

Must exhibit excellent organizational and communication skills.

High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s or Associates Degree with a theater technical production emphasis preferred.

Police Chief

Police Chief/Director of Public Safety

The City of Worthington, population 12,700, is accepting applications for the Police Chief/Director of Public Safety position. The Worthington Police Department consists of 23 sworn officers including the Chief of Police, a Captain, three Patrol Sergeants, one Detective Sergeant, two Narcotics Investigators, one Gang Investigator, a Detective, one School Resource Officer, 2 K-9 Officers, 12 Patrol Officers and a Community Services Officer. The department also has an Administrative Assistant, two Records Personnel, five full time Dispatchers and one Dispatch Supervisor.
The Police Chief performs administrative and managerial police work involving the protection and safety of the community through the development and implementation of department objectives, policies and procedures. Minimum requirements include a two year degree with five years patrol or investigative experience and five years management of ten or more employees or five years law enforcement work with a relevant four year degree. Applicants must be POST licensed or quickly able to be licensed and maintain a valid driver’s license. Desirable requirements include eight years of law enforcement work, with advanced training in a comprehensive field of study such as education, law enforcement, public or business administration or similar fields acquired by completing four years of college leading to a Bachelor’s Degree. Ability to speak and read Spanish, Vietnamese or Lao is highly desirable.
Employment will be subject to a successful completion of a pre-employment background check, physical exam/drug test and psychological exam. The current salary range is $75,254 to $101,836 depending on qualifications and subject to City’s wage and compensation plan.

Police Officer


The City of Worthington is taking applications for the position of Police Officer. Applicants must be Licensed or eligible for Minnesota Peace Officer licensure. Applicants must complete a City of Worthington Employment Application and a Police Recruitment Supplemental Questionnaire.
